A trip to a foreign country will never be complete without trying out their most delectable cuisine. And where else can you find all of Malaysia's culinary delights all packed under one roof (a street, actually) but at Jalan Alor (Jalan is a Malay word for "street". Alor, on the other hand, means "small stream").

Ever wondered what it feels like to go and travel solo? Or are you planning to try it out someday but at the back of your mind, you're unsure if you can handle such thing? If you answered "yes" to the above questions, then you're probably at the brink of trying it out. All you need is some shove, really.

Earlier this week, I wrote about the Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur and cited some of the things you can do there. As part of the continuing series, I'll take you to another part of the city. It wasn't really in my itinerary but since I had a few hours left to spare before my flight back to the Philippines, I went out of the hotel early in the morning and wandered off to Merdeka Square all by myself.

Chinatowns have always fascinated me. It started when I went on a trip to Hong Kong a few years back (my 1st trip abroad) and an unplanned visit to their Chinatown sparked my interest that eventually led me to visit each Chinatown community in all countries that I traveled thereafter.

Last month, I was out on a trip to Panglao, Bohol, together with my girlfriend and a few of my officemates. It was my first time to be in Panglao and I was expecting that it would be much like Boracay — a well-known tourist trap in the Philippines — where in all of the tourist mayhem, money comes fast to those who know how to build complex sandcastles and, in this case, spit a fine mist of fuel over an open flame to form a fireball.

Ask any local from Guimaras or someone who has been there about the best spots in the island province where one can spend a vacation, and they'll most likely recommend the beach resorts in Alubihod or Guisi. Ask any tourist about their preferred island vacation and they'll most likely tell you about white sand beach resorts...or pretty much about anything that they can brag about in social media sites showing that they have lived and experienced — even for a short time — the much-coveted island paradise life.

In my recent solo backpacking trip to the island of Guimaras last Holy Week, I didn't have any fixed itinerary in mind — it was rather a go-solo-and-get-lost kind of trips, which I am now starting to love. The plan was just to have a list of places in Guimaras that are worth visiting and hop from one trike to another to go to those places. Balaan Bukid was not in the list — I didn't know the place existed — but I found myself to be at the perfect place at the perfect time. Read on after the break.
